About Bethany
Dr Bethany Lusk is a Clinical Psychologist and the Co-Founder and Director of Chrysalis Psychology & Wellbeing.
With a deep passion for both clinical practice and academia, Bethany skilfully balances her time between providing therapeutic services and serving as a dedicated educator and clinical supervisor at the University of Tasmania. Her commitment to the growth and development of the psychology profession is evident in her active involvement in mentoring early career psychologists. Bethany has previously held prominent leadership roles, including Deputy Chair of the Australian Psychological Society (Tasmanian Branch) and Secretary for the College of Clinical Psychologists (Tasmania).
A fervent advocate for advancing the field of psychology, Bethany has published extensively and presented her work at both national and international conferences. She also leads peer-supervision groups and delivers training and webinars focused on her areas of expertise.
Qualifications
Bethany holds a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours in Psychology, 2009) and a Master of Clinical Psychology from the University of Tasmania (2012). She further pursued a PhD in Clinical Psychology, completed in 2017, with her research focusing on sex and menstrual phase differences in the cortical processing of emotion and emotion regulation.
As a Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) Approved Supervisor, Bethany has extensive experience in supervising both students in their university studies and practicing psychologists working towards clinical endorsement.
Experience
Bethany provides a comprehensive range of clinical services, specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of various psychological challenges faced by adults, either individually or as couples. She is particularly skilled in addressing issues such as anxiety, stress, depression, and low self-esteem. Bethany’s clinical interests include working with clients experiencing trauma, grief and loss, end-of-life support, sexual disorders and dysfunction, and relationship therapy. To enhance her expertise in these areas, she has completed additional training and supervision.
Bethany’s therapeutic approach is grounded in psycho-education and the use of evidence-based interventions tailored to the unique needs of each client. She is proficient in various therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)-informed therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed therapy, Schema Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Psychosexual Therapy.
Bethany selects treatment approaches according to the needs of each individual client and takes a flexible approach in adapting the scientific principles of treatment to each person and situation. Bethany’s practice is deeply client-centred and connection-focused. She is dedicated to building strong, collaborative therapeutic relationships grounded in respect, trust, and mutual understanding. Her ultimate goal is to empower her clients to gain insights, overcome challenges, and achieve their personal and relational goals.
